Two 2D animation videos and an accompanying trainer's guide, specifically designed to support the CBRN training curriculum for first responders.
DThe need for specialised training is growing, and with it the necessity to innovate educational resources. For the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), we therefore developed 2D animation videos for CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) trainers, under the name 'The MELODY Training'.
We created two purpose-driven 2D animation videos and an accompanying trainer's guide, specifically designed to support them within the CBRN training curriculum for first responders.
The process:
Animation Video 1 – Introduction to the MELODY Curriculum, aims to explain the fundamental principles of the MELODY curriculum. It contains essential information on how trainers can tailor their training to the specific needs of their participants, taking into account the target audience, available time, and the physical or digital capabilities of the training facility.
Animation Video 2 – Personalisation of the Curriculum, focuses on the personalisation of the curriculum by trainers. It explains how trainers can compile modules and develop a bespoke training programme that aligns with the requirements and objectives of the units being trained.
MELODY Guide for Trainers: Alongside the animations, RIVM also developed a detailed guide for trainers. This guide serves as a comprehensive source of information, providing guidelines and best practices for making effective use of the training materials.
Style and tone of the resources: The animations and guide were designed with a clean, clear style, aimed at a highly educated, academic audience. The tone is serious and informative, yet also direct and straightforward, befitting the practical nature of the target audience.
What this means for you: The combination of visually compelling and substantively strong 2D animations with a comprehensive guide has contributed significantly to the quality of the CBRN training programmes. This case highlights the success of the project and recommends continuing to develop and implement similar approaches in order to improve the effectiveness of specialised training.
